After spending two years and covering nearly 50,000 kilometers together, we made the tough decision to part ways with our beloved Grand Vitara. This car not only introduced us to the joys of automotive travel but also connected us with passionate enthusiasts who share a unique perspective on the world. Sadly, it’s now a part of our past.
What distinguishes the second generation of Suzuki Grand Vitara from other cars?
The second generation of the Suzuki Grand Vitara showcases a commendable spirit of off-roading prowess. While it may not possess the classic attributes of a rugged off-roader, such as a sturdy steel frame and two solid axles, it has been meticulously engineered to excel in various scenarios. Although it may not conquer challenging terrains like the revered Nissan Patrol, which has captured the hearts of many Poles, it proved more than capable when we ventured off the beaten path.
In addition to its off-roading capabilities, the Suzuki Grand Vitara is not a vehicle known for its speed or imposing size. Nonetheless, its adaptability proved to be a significant advantage when we made the decision to purchase this car approximately two years ago. The Grand Vitara seamlessly transitioned between serving as our everyday city driver and our reliable companion for adventures. Thanks to its independent suspension, the car provided a comfortable ride that was far from resembling a turbulent cruise on a fishing boat.

Why did we sell the Suzuki?
As we embarked on our move to the bustling city of Hamburg, it became evident that owning two cars was unnecessary for our current lifestyle. The city’s highly efficient public transport system renders the need for a second vehicle minimal. In light of this, we have come to the realization that our compact Nissan Juke, equipped with a small gasoline engine, suffices for our day-to-day commuting needs.
However, we envision the second car playing a crucial role in our weekend getaways outside the city and our ambitious journeys to diverse corners of Europe, and who knows, perhaps even beyond. Consequently, we have set our expectations high for the second car, as it must meet, if not surpass, the majority of our travel requirements.
What do we expect from our next car?
Perhaps two years may seem like a relatively short period, and we would have continued driving our current car if our requirements hadn’t significantly evolved during this time. Our foremost priority is finding a vehicle that will bring us joy for years to come, which means acquiring a car with a well-maintained body and chassis at the time of purchase, as well as offering unlimited modification possibilities. We have our sights set on a classic off-road construction with minimal electronic components, aiming to minimize potential failures and ensuring the flexibility to repair the car anywhere in the world.
Moreover, we have a preference for cars with a timeless, classic appearance, leaning towards angular designs that exude character and soul. While there are numerous options available, we have already identified some intriguing models that have piqued our interest. In addition to these criteria, we also desire a vehicle that provides ample interior space. We are contemplating the inclusion of a sleeping platform inside, which proves invaluable in unfavorable conditions, but we are also open to considering the option of another roof tent. We delved into this topic in one of our previous blog posts, which can be found here.
