Camping Cala Llevadó

This year, we decided to embark on a vacation during the off-season. If you've ever pondered the idea of taking a camping trip to Spain in early May, we're here to provide you with the answer: absolutely!

Right from the start, we were certain that we wanted to spend a few days of our vacation on the renowned Costa Brava, known for its stunning beaches, breathtaking vistas, and delectable cuisine. After careful consideration, we selected Camping Cala Llevadó as our accommodation and opted to stay in one of the mobile homes available through Vacanceselect.

About Camping Cala Llevadó

Camping Cala Llevadó, situated in the charming town of Tossa de Mar, resides in one of Spain’s most sought-after regions, the Costa Brava. This expansive campsite offers a wide range of accommodation options, ranging from tents to mobile homes and chalets. Nestled amidst lush foliage, the campground boasts an array of picturesque pitches, some of which offer stunning vistas of the sparkling sea. However, it’s worth noting that the campsite terrain features numerous slopes and hills, which may pose a challenge for individuals with mobility constraints.

Directions to the Campsite

To reach the campsite, there are two convenient airport options available. Barcelona airport is approximately a 1 hour and 20-minute car ride away, while Girona airport is approximately a 40-minute drive away. We highly recommend considering car rental to explore the coastal region and its surrounding areas, as it grants you remarkable independence and access to locations not easily reached by public transportation. In our own experience, we arrived at the campsite by car, as we had the luxury of taking an extended vacation and desired the flexibility to make stops in countries such as Switzerland and France along the way.

Facilities at Camping Cala Llevadó

Camping Cala Llevadó not only provides direct access to the sea but also features a swimming pool and a nearby paddling pool for added water-based enjoyment. Adjacent to the water facilities, you’ll find a restaurant serving delectable local dishes, as well as a pizzeria. A conveniently equipped supermarket is located just a few meters away, allowing us to purchase fresh bread each day. The campground also offers a range of additional amenities, including laundry facilities with washers and dryers, playgrounds, a basketball court, and designated areas for table tennis. During the peak season, families can take advantage of the kids’ club, and in the evenings, the campground hosts entertaining activities suitable for the whole family.

Mobile Homes by Vacanceselect

For our stay, we chose accommodation in cooperation with Vacanceselect in a Moda mobile home, which can accommodate up to 6 people. Our mobile home was equipped with 3 bedrooms, a living room with a kitchen, a bathroom, and a toilet. This is a very comfortable option for a family trip, as the mobile home is fully equipped, including dishes, a coffee maker, a microwave, and a fridge. The accommodation is also equipped with air conditioning and heating. During our stay, we had the opportunity to use both of these options, because in May the temperatures during the day and night differ greatly. During the day when the temperature reached about 25 degrees, we could turn on the air conditioning, while in the evening when the degrees went down, we could turn on the electric heaters.

Attractions around Camping Cala Llevadó

Undoubtedly, the campsite’s most notable attribute is its idyllic location. Just a short distance from the campground, you’ll find aquatic centers that offer equipment rentals, including paddleboards and kayaks. If the three beaches surrounding the campsite leave you craving more, a quick car ride will take you to other stunning sandy areas like Platja Gran or Platja Mar Menuda, where you can admire the captivating views of the castle. Tossa de Mar also organizes boat excursions, which often include stops at picturesque bays and the opportunity for diving. Embarking on one of these excursions is an excellent idea to experience the coastline from a unique perspective.

Nestled amidst a lush pine forest, Camping Cala Llevadó boasts a truly fantastic location, offering breathtaking views and direct access to not just one, but three magnificent beaches.

Platja Santa María de Llorell

Platja Santa Maria de Llorell undoubtedly captured our hearts. Despite the slightly challenging descent, the scenic beauty of its mountainous surroundings and the crystal-clear waters instantly made up for the effort. It’s worth noting that during the peak season, Camping Cala Llevadó offers a shuttle service to the beach in a specially designed off-road vehicle. Moreover, there is a delightful bar with a paradise-like ambiance, serving a mouthwatering array of local delicacies such as patatas bravas, calamari, grilled octopus, fresh fish, and much more. While it may not be the most budget-friendly option, the delectable food coupled with the breathtaking sea view creates a truly special atmosphere that is well worth the indulgence.

Cala Figuera

Nestled amidst a scenic landscape, Cala Figuera is a small yet remarkably stunning and charming nudist beach. It offers direct accessibility from the campsite through a picturesque staircase that winds its way through the enchanting trees.

Cala Llevadó

Situated in the farthest corner of the campsite, Cala Llevadó is a small beach that shares its name with the campground. Although reaching this beach may require a longer walk, particularly if your accommodation is near the reception area, we firmly believe that it is well worth the effort. The beach’s captivating beauty, combined with its relative seclusion during the off-season, made it a truly mesmerizing sight to behold.

Tossa de Mar

A destination not to be missed, located just a short 10-minute drive away, is the delightful town of Tossa de Mar. One of its major highlights is the medieval castle, dating back to the 12th and 14th centuries, which stands as the town’s main attraction. The castle offers a remarkable experience with its captivating views of the coastline. After exploring the town, we found ourselves yearning for something sweet. We highly recommend visiting the BlauBlanc Gelato&Lounge, an ice cream and coffee shop that delighted our taste buds. From here, we indulged in delicious ice cream while enjoying panoramic views of the castle and the sea. Additionally, the city center boasts a diverse range of restaurants, souvenir shops, and clothing stores, providing ample options to explore and immerse oneself in the vibrant atmosphere of Tossa de Mar.

If you have an inclination to explore picturesque shorelines, indulge in retail therapy, or immerse yourself in the energetic atmosphere after sunset, Tossa de Mar is certainly a destination worth considering.

Calella de Palafrugell

Although we had initially planned to visit this captivating town, circumstances prevented us from making it there. However, if you find yourself with the opportunity and time, we highly encourage you to explore this enchanting destination. It boasts a unique charm with buildings nestled just a few meters away from the pristine beach. Additionally, while in the area, we recommend visiting the Camí de Ronda Calella-Golfet viewpoint, which offers breathtaking vistas that are sure to leave a lasting impression.

Eager to savor the moment, we eagerly settled in to soak up the atmosphere, relishing the company, the breathtaking vista, and, of course, the delectable food. The bar menu presented a delightful array of traditional tapas, including tender octopus, succulent calamari, crispy patatas bravas, flavorful fish croquettes, and surprisingly popular salad featuring goat cheese. Mas Molla Winery

Spontaneously, on a Sunday afternoon, we decided to pay a visit to a local winery, and our choice led us to the remarkable Mas Molla Winery. Although we arrived in the last five minutes of their opening hours, the gracious owner still managed to give us a tour of this historic, family-run estate, which has been producing wine for an astounding 700 years. We took advantage of the opportunity to stock up on their exquisite wines, priced between 2-5 euros per bottle. If you have an interest in exploring wineries in the Costa Brava region, we highly recommend adding this charming establishment to your itinerary. However, do remember to contact such places in advance to secure a spot for the wine tour and to verify their opening hours, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience.
