In this post, we summarize all modifications of our previous Overlanding car, the second-generation Suzuki Grand Vitara. It is the processor of your current vehicle, the Toyota Land Cruiser GRJ76. It includes among other things the suspension lift, the wheel setup, and the roof rack.
Old Man Emu Suspension Lift
One of the first Suzuki modifications was the Old Man Emu 20mm suspension kit made by ARB. In addition to the lift, it increases driving comfort and significantly contributes to maintaining road grip. An actual next-level driving experience. It is necessary that the individual elements of the kit are individually matched to the car. With this in mind, we recommend purchasing and installing a workshop specializing in 4×4 vehicles.
Yokohama Geloandar Tires
In addition to the suspension, we bought new tires. The choice fell on the Yokohama Geolandar A / T G015 in size 235/70/16 with white inscriptions. This model is very quiet on the road, has good winter properties, and works great even on wet surfaces. In muddy terrain, it becomes clogged quickly and it takes a long time to clean again. We traveled about 50,000 kilometers on these tires and we can honestly recommend them.
Dotz Dakar Steel Rims
In addition to the new tires, we purchased 7 × 16 5 × 114.3 and ET +20 steel rims from Snake4x4. A positive ET moves the tire further out. Compared to the original rims, it is about 4 cm. The car has a wider wheelbase and of course, looks much better.
Front Runner Slimline II roof rack
Another big upgrade was the new roof rack. The choice fell on the Slimline II model from the South African company Front Runner Outfitters. Not only is it very visually attractive, it can also be perfectly extended with various modifications. The roof rack measures 1762 mm x 1255 mm. The package includes new roof rails. Compared to the original, they are much flatter and have more attachment points.
Front Runner feather-lite roof-top Tent
The tent we chose is 130 cm wide and 240 cm long. It is also the lowest (216 mm) and lightest on the market (43 kg). This is the Front Runner Feather-Lite roof tent. The space is sufficient for two adults and can be extended with an additional tent. Windows provide an unrestricted view in all directions – roof windows can open or close to fresh air, the sun, or a sky full of stars. This model of a roof-top tent is quite popular with small cars such as Suzuki Jimny due to its weight and dimensions.
Front Runner Easy-Out awning
The awning we chose is the Front Runner Easy-Out model. When unfolded, it is 1.4m wide and 2.1m long – the perfect size for smaller vehicles. Additionally, it is resistant to water and UV rays. Aluminum Skid Plates
Due to the susceptibility to damage to the gear reducer and radiator, it was clear to us that we would have to purchase a skid plate for the Grand Vitara. The choice fell on a set of 6 mm thick aluminum covers. They use factory-made holes and threads in the vehicle frame. This is actually the most important Suzuki. Grand Vitara 2 modification.
Osram FX1000-CB SM LED-BAR
The 40-inch FX1000-CB SM spotlight from Front Runner Outfitters contains 40 durable, high-performance LEDs with OSRAM technology. Illumination is possible up to a distance of 635 m with a brightness of 8,000 lumens. The ECE certificate allows the use of an additional headlamp for use on public roads.
Sony 2DIN Radio
Music is an essential part of any successful short trip. When choosing the 2DIN radio, we were guided by two main features. The radio should have good sound quality and the ability to connect the phone to the Google Maps application. We chose the Sony XAV-AX100 (Android mobile phone) as the perfect radio for our purposes. The Sony XAV-AX1000 radio can be connected to the iOS iPhone system.
Motul 5W40 engine oil
The fully synthetic Motul 8100 X-cess 5W40 oil is dedicated to gasoline and diesel engines. First of all, the oil we choose significantly reduces fuel consumption and extends the life of the drive unit. Due to the unique chemical formulation, the temperature and pressure of the oil are reached much faster than when using similar products.
